The lady human got busy with other things and didn’t have time to write about us. She said she forgot about this blog until the domain name was renewed. She doesn’t want to waste the money anymore by not using this space so she has promised to write about us more.
Visit to the Veterinarian
We went to the vet a couple of months ago and got our shots. The lady human took us separately because she’s a weakling and couldn’t carry both carriers.
Pony
I went first. I did not like the car ride. I pooped and peed in the carrier. I also howled. I don’t know why the lady human does this to me. I am so kind to her but she tortures me so. The doctor said I didn’t gain any weight and my teeth look fine.
Waffle
I went to the doctor the second day. Pony told me what to expect. I pooped in the carrier, but I did not pee. I didn’t howl either. I did not like the ride though.
The doctor said I gained weight. What does she know?
Lady Human
Yes, I took them to the veterinarian, they were overdue for an appointment. After the appointments I bought this. No more carrying heavy cat carriers containing heavy cats. Pony seems to like it at least.
Pony’s Fifteen Minutes
Pony
I like to sit on the tall chairs by the food place. The lady human had a funny looking vegetable on the food place so I jumped on a tall chair to see if it was something I like. The lady human took a photo of me and put the photo on a place where people like photos of cats and funny vegetables. Lots of people liked my picture. Even a very good photographer. He said it was a page-stopper.
Lady Human
I was taking a photo of the romanesco and Pony popped his head up behind it so I took his photo too and uploaded it to Threads. It got a fair number of views. A cookbook author really liked it.
I saw him first. I made sure the lady human also saw him.
Waffle
I saw him too. But I really didn’t care.
Pony
The lady human gave the cat some food (I think it was food — it came out of a can though) and some water — I think it was water, but it wasn’t moving water like ours.
Waffle
She gave him the good food? Now I care!
Pony
I watched the strange cat eat for a while, then took a nap. When I woke up the strange cat moved to a different door — the one in the room with the windows. I watched him intently. He growled at me.
Waffle
Then the lady human made us leave the room with the windows and she let the strange cat inside! Luckily for us she put it outside again and finally it went away.
Pony
The lady human was using her black rectangle a lot more than usual and talking on it a lot. Then she was talking to another lady human and went outside a lot. But then I took a nap.
Waffle
While Pony was napping I looked out the window and saw the strange cat was back again. I might have growled at him.
Pony
The lady human woke me up from my nap by making Waffle and me go in the room with the windows and locking us INSIDE this time. I wish she would make up her mind.
Waffle
She let that strange cat into the kitchen! It cried and cried — I almost felt sorry for it but then I remembered that it got the good food.
Pony
That other lady human came back and they put the strange cat in its carrier. It sure hated that! We understand completely! Then the other lady human and the strange cat left and our lady human let us out of the room with the windows.
Lady Human
What the Waffle and Pony couldn’t have known is that I found the owner by posting photos on a neighborhood email list. It all worked out well.
Yes, Waffle and Pony were heroes. If it were not for them I would not have noticed the cat on the deck and it may have been lost longer. Of course, maybe having the cats made the cat visit in the first place…
It’s all Waffle’s fault. If she didn’t pee around the house we would not have had to go on a car ride and get prodded and poked by strange humans and been stuck with a sharp thing. I’m not sorry I puked and pooped in the brand new cat backpack the lady human bought me.
Waffle
Don’t blame me, Pony. We were both due for our rabies shots. And I only peed in the cage. I didn’t like it either. Plus the strange humans said I should weigh 2 pounds less than I do. They suggested exercise!
Lady Human
Give it a break cats. First of all, it was not a long car ride. It was 15 minutes tops. Second the veterinarian was very nice. So was the technician. They both commented on what beautiful eyes you have, Pony. Waffle, they said you had beautiful markings and were impressed with your furry footpads!
That said, I’m thinking that I’ll sign up for a vet that only does home visits for two reasons — first is that the vet I’ve used for years is moving. Secondly, the the cats really hate car rides and I really hate lugging the carriers to the car and then into the vet’s office and back into the car and back into the house.

We’ve had two really big adventures since we moved in with the new humans. The first one was lots of fun but the second was terrible. This post is about our adventure OUTSIDE!
Waffle
One morning a few months ago we were minding our own business, looking out the windows in the window room. Pony saw a squirrel and pounced at it and suddenly, after a very loud noise the window disappeared. Pony walked to the disappeared window to investigate and then he disappeared! I didn’t know what to do so I looked for Pony and saw him OUTSIDE! He told me to join him, so I jumped and ended up on the outside floor.
Pony
I don’t know what I did, but as Waffle explained, we were OUTSIDE! There were so many new smells out there. And lots of salad. Salad is everywhere outside. I walked around and tasted all the salads.
Waffle
I was not so interested in the salads. I just wanted to go back INSIDE where the lady human lived. I found some steps and a door so I stayed there while Pony explored and ate salads.
Pony
I found the best salad next to the steps that Waffle climbed.
Waffle
I watched Pony eat salad for a while, then I heard the lady human. She sounded a lot like the loud human but her voice was higher. And she sounded a little scared. Finally she opened the door by the stairs where I was watching Pony and I gladly went inside. I tried to tell her that Pony was just outside the door by the steps but she didn’t understand me.
Lady Human
What a frightening morning. I was chilly so went to close the window in the lodge that Dean had opened the night before. It took me a second or two to realize that the pull-down screen was no longer pulled down. I immediately understood what happened: the cats must have seen something out the window and pushed on the screen which then snapped open. It’s made in a way that to open it you push down on the bottom and it rolls up into a housing at the top of the window.
After shouting for Dean to come help me find the cats I looked out the lodge door and saw Waffle sitting on the porch. I let her in and went outside to search for Pony. I decided to go counter-clockwise around the house, not knowing how far he could have gotten — imagining the worst. Imagining that he’d been outside all night and eaten by the neighborhood foxes or coyotes or hit by a car. I called him and called him. Dean showed up with their food and shook the bag (the treats would have been more effective but at least he tried). I walked down one street and back and then continued looking and shouting (followed by Dean shaking the bag of food) in the front yard, looking up the streets that pass by our corner house.
By this time I was devastated and terrified, wondering how I was going to break the news to their previous humans. Dean went back in the house and we figured that we’d just wait a bit to see if Pony showed up when he was hungry. As I walked back into the house, I wondered which photo I would use on the Lost Cat posters I planned on putting up around the neighborhood.
Not long afterward I went back outside to the paper recycling bin to toss a box into it. There, in front of the recycling bin was Pony, munching on grass next to the patio, steps away from the porch where I found Waffle. It seemed he walked clockwise around the house and found the grass. I scooped him up and took his protesting self in the house, relieved that it all turned out okay.
Pony
I wasn’t doing anything wrong. The lady human had no right to pick me up and make me go back into the house where I get scolded if I eat salad there.
Lady Human
Please note that Pony occasionally nibbles on our houseplants or cut flowers and yes, we do scold him when he does that.
I took no photos for obvious reasons (panic….?) so here are a few recent pics.
The lady human seems to like it when I sleep with her, but lately, during and after the loud human’s yelling sickness she’s been sleeping in a room behind a door. We’ve been in that room, but most of the time it’s closed and no amount of scratching or meowing at the door will make it open. Last night it did open once and I ran in and slept with the lady human, but the bed is very small and I wanted to sleep sideways and there was not much room left for the lady human. Oops. Later, when I left the room, the door closed again and didn’t open until it was time for the lady human to get up and feed us.
Pony
Eh, I don’t sleep with the humans. Sometimes I like to jump onto the bed, but not very often. Waffle does like to though and I felt bad for Waffle that the door to the room where the lady human was sleeping today was closed, so I helped her scratch on it and meow. It finally opened and boy were we glad! We followed her to her litter box and made loving noises while she used it. We played it cool, though when she was done, and pretended we had nothing to do with the scratching and meowing at the door. We finally reminded her that it was time for her to go downstairs and finally rushed downstairs before her, so she could know where to go.
Lady Human
Yeah, I have been sleeping in a guest bedroom this week. Dean came home from Mexico with a pretty nasty tummy bug and Waffle’s description of it as the yelling sickness is pretty accurate. Since I was getting a good night’s sleep, I just kept sleeping in the guest bedroom. Last night, was different since Waffle really wanted in the room with me. She woke me several times with her scratching and meowing, so I eventually relented and let her in. Kind of a mistake since she took up most of the twin bed. After she left (at 3am) I closed the door again, but she came back a few times and woke me up, scratching at the door.
In the morning, Pony joined her. Granted, it was their breakfast time and I should have been up over an hour ago, but still…
They do have a routine, though, when I get up. Yes, I leave the bathroom door ajar so they can tell me good morning when I get up. Then they wait at the top of the steps until I am ready to go downstairs, and then they rush down the stairs, side-by-side, tails in the air, stopping in the kitchen for their morning treat before heading to their bowl of food* waiting for me to fill it.
But I love them, so they can keep me awake whenever they want.
*Note to Dan — the timed feeder was great, but we’ve decided to use it when we go away since it was hard to remember when the food would run out.
We’d post more often, but as you know, we can’t type so it is up to the lady human to write the things we say. She’s been preoccupied lately but finally sat down to hear what we wanted to say.
Before we get to the main subject of this post, we wanted to say that we are happy here. The lady human doesn’t play with us as much as we’d like, but she’s really nice and lets Waffle sit on her lap whenever Waffle wants to.
The man human (we really should call him the loud human because is soooo loud) seems to want to be our friend. Both Waffle and I have briefly let him pet us. Sometimes he plays with us with our thing on a string.
Back to the subject of this post.
So the lady human (and sometimes the loud human) gives us treats. We love the treats and at least one of us, begs for them. (Okay, it is I who begs for them). So we make sure to leave the lady human treats too. And we know she loves them because she sings about them and tells us thank you for the treats.
I’ll let Waffle tell you the rest.
Waffle
As Pony was saying, the lady human loves our treats. She especially loves when we leave them in our litter boxes. (She really hates it when we leaves them outside the litter boxes, like, for instance, the loud human’s chair.)
Just the other day she was digging through the our litter telling us how wonderful we were that we left her such amazing treats. She seems to like it when we bury them so she can dig them up. We get so excited when she’s happily digging, we have to see what she’s doing.
She says things like, “Did you leave me any treats? You did? Oh my goodness, here are a whole bunch — and they are still smelly! Good job!”
We like to make her happy. When she is happy she gives us treats (and pets and belly rubs).
Lady human
Yes, I admit that I act excited when I pull their poop out of the litter box. It makes the task more fun. And Pony (and to a lesser extent, Waffle) seem to like it when I act excited.
They are wonderful cats and obviously care about each other.
The loud human has been gone this week and Waffle has spent time sleeping with me in bed.
I cannot believe it has been over a week that we’ve been with these new humans. They have a lot of windows in their house and places to sit while looking out of them. Two of the windows in the top of the house are open all the time! It’s hot in that top room though. And there are doors there that smell like wonderful places but the lady human won’t let us through them.
The lady human gives us treats but she was a little upset when we knocked over a box of treats and ate a lot of them when she was sleeping. Oops!
The man human is still loud and scary. He talks to us, and sometimes gives us treats but only when the lady human tells him to.
Oh! I let the lady human rub my belly the other day. It was nice.
Waffle
The lady human is nice to me. She let me sit on her lap but then she had to go and hold her rectangle thing and wasn’t petting me anymore.
I see that Pony told you about us getting into the treats. Well, I think it was the lady human’s fault for leaving the box out in plain sight anyway. We’re only cats you know.
The man human petted me today. I followed the lady human down from the room at the top of the house. He was sitting where I wanted to be so I jumped up and let him pet me. At least until the lady human left. Then I followed her.
Lady human
I really think Pony and Waffle have begun to settle in. Waffle sits on my lap often and encourages me to put down my phone. This morning she jumped on the bed and plopped herself on my torso. She reminds me of our cat, Halloween, in that she’s become my shadow, following me from room to room, floor to floor; always wanting to be in the same room as I am in, the closer the better.
Pony is more aloof. He’s happy to be petted and even held, but doesn’t beg for it. He does, however, beg for treats. And then some!
I find it so sweet that both cats seem to adore each other. One day I saw them grooming each other. A few days later, Pony was aggressively grooming Waffle. His front paws held her in a hug while his back leg seemed to be making sure she wouldn’t get away. Not sure what that was about — but he was really licking her head and neck. Waffle eventually got tired of it and swatted him.
Here are some photos of the past few days.
We don’t normally allow cats on tables, but one thing at a time!Grooming each otherCat napCat nap tooNot sure Waffle liked this groomingHe’s got her in a crossface plus legride (my son was a wrestler so I know these things)
I’m feeling a little better. I still don’t understand what’s going on, but the humans here are nice enough. I even let the lady human pick me up a couple of times, but only briefly. Still not ready to let her rub my belly though.
I’m finding new places to rest. While I still prefer to hang out under the bed, the humans have a comfortable chair in their bedroom and a nice firm love seat in the room with all the windows.
Waffle, on the other hand, seems to be more stressed. She took a wee on one of the chairs in the room with the black window and then did a poo and a wee on the other chair in the same room.
Waffle
Thanks, Pony, for tattling on me. I make two little mistakes and everyone is annoyed at me. The lady human makes a pshhhing noise at me when I go near the chairs (that are now covered in crinkly things — I’m not about to jump on a pile of newspaper or that shiny paper). Ugh.
On a brighter note the lady human let us be in the room at the top of the house while she was talking to the big rectangular light thing. This morning she even opened a window. Alas, I cannot get through it though because it has a screen.
Lady human
At first I thought Waffle was just scared in the first chair since it wobbles so much, but when she used the other chair as a litter box, I knew I had to take more action than just covering the chairs in newspaper and aluminum foil. PetSmart in on my errand list today to buy another litter box. I guess we will put it in the lodge for now since W&P like to hang out there and it is close enough to the chairs to maybe clue Waffle into the fact that chairs are not litter boxes.
It’s a little frustrating and unexpected, but perhaps it shouldn’t have been so unexpected. W&P have gone through a pretty big change. Both are still sweethearts and Pony seems to be warming up to me.
So yesterday was weird. Pony and I had a nice day with Dan, then he took us on a car ride. We hate car rides. I may or may not have soiled the carrier.
We ended up back at the place we visited earlier in the summer. I remembered the porch. It was nice and cool on the floor. But then Dan left. Pony and I were confused but I assumed Dan would be back. Pony wasn’t so sure.
This morning the lady human played with us a little then both the humans who live in the house left. It seems like another strange day. At least our feeder works.
Pony
Waffle is right — yesterday was weird and today is starting out just as weird. She’s also right that I’m not sure Dan is coming back any time soon. He said as much on the ride over here — that we were going to our new home. I admit that I am sad, and maybe a little angry.
The lady human who lives here keeps pointing her phone at us. She pets us and plays with us too. This morning she tried to get me to play with the thing on a wire, but I could only pretend to be interested for her sake. At least Waffle played more enthusiastically and without pretense.
Oh look! What’s in this cat-level drawer? Oh, just paper and cloth? Boring…
